MOLD FLOW ANALYSIS CAPABILITY
Eminently suited for the Injection molding process, the Moldflow™ helps predict a number of process parameters that help minimize the trial and error prevalent in the conventional cut-and-try approach. Making use of the common flow properties of the material and the part geometry from IDEAS, this program simulates the flow of the melt in the mold, during its injection, fill, pack and hold phases.
The MF program predicts: Injection Pressure, Fill time, Pressure and Temperature differentials, Shear rate, Short shot, Volumetric shrinkage, and Machine capacity. In summary it provides an insight into the quality of the product as well as the productivity of the machine -- both of which are vital to the shop floor personnel.
The MF program assumes that the mold temperature is uniform, and that the cooling channels are laid out optimally, so as to make this assumption true. The analysis is performed on the mid-plane geometry of the injection molded part.
We use I-DEAS to extract the mid-plane geometry that the Moldflow™ program requires. This step carries the thickness information with it, so the Moldflow™ program would use for flow, shear stress and all other parameters. Alternate materials, the need for additional flow leaders, various gate locations and types are analyzed easily and such analyses are the virtual equivalent of tens of thousands of dollars worth of the conventional cut-and-try approach.
